Scope

A toolkit for eResearch Projects and Departments, wishing to leverage Federated ID for accessing data, resources and collaboration tools

Provide a Shibboleth-based SSO infrastructure for collaboration, in which SPs can trust IdPs cross federations and individual services can trust individual users. The authorization for which user can access which service is based on the user attributes accepted by the service.
Provide an integration and sharing environment for protected resources and services (or tools) to be integrated into the environment.
Provide portlet-based portals to access the integrated resources and services (or tools)
Provide a general framework for specific developers to build their goal-based collaborative applications

Goals and workspace oriented: resources readily accessible in one interface
Wide range of tools (forums, wikis, repositories, instant messaging, etc)
Easy integration of shibbolized tools internally within VO and externally available ones
Propagation of VO attributes to tools/services
Strong authZ on resources/services
Integration with grid resources via generation of proxy cert to access grid resources
Intra- and inter-institutional collaboration environment
Flexible structure of sub-VO system or multiple VO system instances
